XRE Brings AR to Life, Enhancing EKCC’s 'Around the Corner' Exhibition
From April 22 to July 30, 2024, XRE is proud to support XRT, in delivering a rich, immersive experience for the “Around The Corner” exhibition at the East Kowloon Cultural Centre (EKCC). As a leader in immersive technology, XRE has created a multidimensional interactive art experience, "Around the Corner", designed to transport visitors back in time to the vibrant, communal spirit of Hong Kong’s old public housing estates.
With a unique blend of sound, visuals, and cutting-edge immersive design, XRE’s creation breathes life into iconic elements of old Hong Kong. Through augmented reality (AR) and other technologies, the exhibition recreates scenes from the city’s past, such as grille walls, dai pai dongs, and classic Shanghainese barber shops, immersing participants in a nostalgic yet surreal journey.
One of the key highlights of this collaboration is XRE’s use of AR technology, which allows visitors to interact with recreated historical environments through various forms and scales. This dynamic storytelling not only engages the audience but also deepens their understanding of the community's cultural and historical roots.
Key Interactive Experiences at "Around The Corner"
Visitors will encounter a range of interactive experiences designed to immerse them in Hong Kong’s history:
1. Creating Your Own Path
Using sensors that track movement, each step participants take transforms the ground images, allowing them to create their own unique pathways through the exhibition. This interaction symbolizes the individual journeys and shared spaces of old Hong Kong’s communities.
2. Interactive Image Projection
A large projection wall responds to participants' positions and choices, displaying different visuals. Visitors can interact with these images, exploring the connections between people and community life in Hong Kong’s public housing estates.
3. Space-time Exploration
Leveraging state-of-the-art technology, participants can virtually step into different time periods and engage with people from various eras, offering an immersive experience that bridges the past, present, and future.
The memories of old Hong Kong are deeply embedded in the hearts of many. “Around the Corner” takes full advantage of technology to bring these memories to life, re-enacting the spirit and community atmosphere of the old public housing estates.
